Situation · Ask
The challenge
HK3 Development needed an identity for Amalia that felt rooted in Sacramento’s Curtis Park and its Spanish architectural influence. The brand had to carry a strong sense of place without becoming nostalgic or overly ornamental.
What The Ask uncovered
Translate the warmth, craft, and architectural character of the setting into a contemporary identity. The system needed to feel distinctive and welcoming while remaining practical across brand, signage, and presentation materials.

Decision
The creative decision
Use the architecture as a working design language rather than surface decoration. Geometric forms drawn from Spanish tilework created the structure; a sun-washed palette and a measured typographic pairing brought warmth and restraint.
What we made
Witzke developed the identity, logo, written expression, typography, color palette, and supporting pattern language. Plantin MT Pro Light and Galano Grotesque balance old-world character with contemporary clarity, while neutrals, ochres, and sage greens reference stucco, terracotta, and courtyard light. Photography and signage direction extend the same sense of texture and calm hospitality.

Value · Review
The result
Amalia gained a coherent identity that connects its name, setting, and architectural references across every visible touchpoint. The system feels specific to Curtis Park while remaining clean and adaptable enough for contemporary use.
Lasting value
The identity provides a durable visual vocabulary rather than a single mark: typography, color, pattern, imagery, and signage can work together as the project grows while preserving the original sense of place.
